Nissan reveals an all-electric all-wheel-drive twin motor at CES

Nissan recently showcased its new twin-motor all-wheel-control technology at the Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Known as the e-4ORCE, this latest innovation will be featured in the automaker’s first electric crossover arriving in 2021.

Nissan is aiming to use this tech to elevate the performance capability of its electric vehicles by providing real-time torque delivery amongst all the four wheels. It can easily control the power flow on the front and the rear end of a vehicle alongside allowing independent control.

The cutting edge technology tends to allow robust acceleration, efficient handling on wet and slippery surfaces, and a smoother deceleration. Moreover, the all-electric motor also enables a vehicle to reduce the pitch and dive, resulting in enhanced ride comfort while cornering. According to the automaker, this particular feature will be extremely helpful in cruising through the traffic of the city.

“The e-4ORCE twin-motor all-wheel control technology offers precise handling and stability, which gives drivers greater confidence and even more excitement than ever before,” said Takao Asami, Nissan’s senior vice president of research and advanced engineering. “This technology enables excellent cornering performance and traction on slippery surfaces and comfortable ride for all passengers.”

Apart from optimizing the front and rear torque allocation, e-4ORCE also helps in applying independent brake control at each of the four wheels, maximizing the cornering force generated by each tire.

Interestingly, Nissan also displayed its zero-emission crossover concept car, Ariya with e-4ORCE at CES. The company also showcased its technology on a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive technology test car during the same event.
