More details about Ssangyong Korando EV revealed
We have been long hearing about the upcoming Ssangyong pure-electric crossover. And now more official details about the said Korando EV is coming straight from Europe.
Ssangyong’s first pure-electric car called the Korando E100 is a mid-size SUV and is said to make a debut in the first half of 2021. According to reports from a reliable source, the EV crossover would be powered by a 140 kW motor that’ll deliver best-in-class acceleration. The motor is paired to a 61.5 kWh battery pack developed by LG. During the NEDC test cycle, the battery displayed a range of 420 km.
When compared to Hyundai Kona Electric, the Korando EV falls 30 km behind. However, in terms of size, the later is bigger than its South Korean counterpart.
It was only a while back when Ssangyong claimed that its upcoming EV would be capable of towing a caravan. However, we don’t have a word on its braked towing capacity.
The top speed of the EV crossover is limited to 150 kmph, and that appears to be a smart move to preserve the range.
Previously, Ssangyong expressed its interset to introduce the Korando Hybrid to Australia, but the automaker hasn’t committed to the pure EV.
Nick Laird, Managing Director Ssangyong Motor UK said, the EV is ‘a huge step forward, even over the current model’. He further said: “It sticks to the company’s roots and DNA of trying to be a proper SUV and crossover brand. I’m interested to see how diesel hybrid plays out. I think there’s a place for diesel hybrid; many of our vehicles are used for towing, and for that, you need to have good torque. Diesel works very well for that kind of application, as do electric and hybrid.”
