The inspiration for the hybrid Maserati was taken from the 2014 Alfieri concept. As per the five-year plan of the firm announced in 2018, the vehicle will be based on the aluminum space frame chassis and available in two body styles- coupe and convertible.

On the mechanical bits, minimum two powertrain options will be offered, a plug-in hybrid version and a completely electric version consisting of three motors, AWD, torque vectoring, an 800V electrical system, unique driving modes, extended driving range, and high-speed charging capabilities.

And, as per the automaker, the electric version will be running 0-100 kmph run in around two seconds. The launch of the revised Ghibli sedan with a hybrid powertrain will also be seen in the next year.

The production of the new crossover will commence in 2021 at Fiat Chrysler's factory in Cassino, where the production of Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio is going on currently. Reportedly, the new crossover will get the rear and AWD platform of Alfa's Giorgio and slot in below the Levante.

Besides this, the automaker is also preparing a replacement for the GranCabrio and GranTurismo coupe. The aforesaid models will indicate the full electrification era for Maserati. The production will be done at a refurbished Turin factory, though nothing has been disclosed about the launch date of the vehicles.

Maserati explains the upcoming new variants will accompany the continuous up-gradation process of the firm and the new Maserati Ghibli Hybrid will be among the promising future electric cars of 2020.
