Lotus Evija hypercar might arrive in Australia by 2021

Lotus has unveiled its first fully developed hypercar, the Evija. The hypercar spec sheet resembles that it will be able to compete with some of the fastest cars in the world.

The limited-run car is confined to 130 units and comes at a price tag, starting at $3 million. The all-electric vehicle will get a maximum power output of 1,973 hp. Power to the car is derived via quad electric motors which enable the vehicle to reach the speed of 100 km per hour from an idle start, in less than three seconds. The car hits the rate of 200 km per hour in a total time of six seconds.

The quad electric battery pack is estimated to provide a driving range of 400 km. Lotus also claims that the car can be charged to 80 percent from zero, in 12 minutes on a 350 kW charger. The total weight of the vehicle is said to be 1,680 kilograms with the top speed reaching up to 340 km per hour.

Talking about its delivery in Australia, Lee Knappett, a distributor of Lotus cars in Australia said, "We've got a little bit of work to do with the Department of Transport," he also added. "We've been working with them. They're very supportive of the program, and they want to see the car here in Australia on the roads."

Interestingly, the distributor also revealed that the automaker was holding five grim expressions of interest for the 1973 hp/2000 Nm hypercar.

Lastly, the hypercar is set to enter production at Lotus's brand-new, purpose-built facility in the UK, with deliveries expected by the end of 2020. While the car is undergoing final Department of Transport compliance for Australia, it is expected to hit the shores by early next year.
