Lotus brings Elise Cup 250 Bathurst Edition; limited to 6 units only

Mount Panorama is one of the most famous track circuits in Australia and is known for its Bathurst 12-Hour race. Lotus had held a track at this iconic venue and had introduced Elise Cup 250 Bathurst Edition small sports car as its tribute. This special edition car is also a part of the automaker’s celebration on the statistics that count Australia as the 6th largest market.

Technically, there is no difference between the standard Elise Cup 250, which was launched in 2017, and the special Bathurst Edition. However, there are minor changes in aesthetics, though not very noticeable. For example, the limited edition model gets black alloy wheels, and also the ‘Bathurst Cup 250’ moniker decals. The rear profile of the car has a flag printed. Plus, if you haven’t noticed yet, the front fenders have the actual layout of the car.

However, there are mechanical changes in the way the car is built. There is a double-wishbone suspension setup for the front and rear, along with Bilstein dampers and Eibach coaxial coil springs. The braking setup now hosts AP Racing front calipers with two pistons Brembo rear brake calipers with a single-piston set.

Under the hood, it uses the same engine as the standard model. This 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder supercharged engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 243 bhp at 7,200 rpm, along with a peak torque of 250 Nm, which comes in at 3,500 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox. The engine can power the car to a top speed of 247 kmph, but only after hitting the 0-100 kmph acceleration mark in just 4.3 seconds.

Mr. David McIntyre, the regional director of China and Asia-Pacific markets at Lotus Cars’ did mention that this is a great way to kick off the new year in Australia, a destination which has been very fruitful to the automaker in 2019. Moreover, the automaker will make use of such events to stand out and build a great reputation in the country.

Interestingly, Lotus will just be producing six units of this Elise Cup 250 Bathurst Edition sports car, though the standard model has a capping of 200 units a year.
