Lexus LX600 trademark hints at getting a more powerful engine

A new trademark has been recently filled by Lexus with the United States Patent and Trademark Office which somewhere indicates that its flagship SUV could be getting a new powertrain. As reported, the firm’s legal team submitted the paperwork on October 10.

If we see the previous nameplates of the SUV, we can find LX450, LX470, and LX570. Just like LX570 is powered by 5.7-litre V8 engine, the other models also have the same story i.e. nameplate explains the engine capacity.

So, if the firm sticks with the same naming strategy, then it is expected that LX600 to be powered by a 6.0-litre V8 engine. Though, it is not sure that the badge reflects the vehicle’s engine capacity, as numerical badges do not necessarily mark the size of the engines, especially with the onset of downsizing.

Before this, the badge 600 was used for fourth-gen Lexus LS600h powered by a 5.0-litre V8 drivetrain paired with an electric motor. Later, it was changed to Lexus LS500h, using a 3.5-litre V6 engine with an electric motor.

However, the second thought can be explained as LX600 could be the improved version of ongoing 5.7-litre V8, already running in top-spec variants of US-built Toyota Tundra and Sequoia.

Another notable thing is dropping the letter h from the nameplate which implies that the new powertrain will not be a hybrid one. On the contrary, we cannot overlook the firm’s intent of launching the hybrid or electric versions of the whole range by 2025.

All these are just speculations for now because nothing has been disclosed about the debut date of the next-gen Lexus LX yet. The trademark is just filled, which does not mean the firm has got the approval of using the name. It may take months to get the permissions, so we cannot expect a soon arrival.
