JLR releases next-gen Range Rover and Range Rover crossover details

As we know, Jaguar is intending to come up with the two new SUVs to support its sales charts. The two models are Range Rover Crossover and next-gen Range Rover. Recently, the brand released some more details about these, let's have a glance. 

The new Range Rover Crossover, earlier termed as Road Rover will be the sleekest and lowest SUV of the company. Also, the new version of the flagship Range Rover will be targeting Bentley Bentayga in the market.

Both the models will be based on Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), the platform on which Jaguar XJ and the next Range Rover Sport are supposed to be built in the future. 

If we talk about the drivetrain options of the new SUVs, they are expected to feature multiple choices for the enthusiasts. Besides mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid engine, the brand is also coming up with all-electric powertrain for the first time. Though all the options won’t be offered at the time of launch in 2021 but we can expect the arrival of Range Rover EV in 2022.

In a recent interview, Gerry McGovern, design director at Land Rover said, “For me, what we’ve shown is the ability of the brand to stretch and be different. We always have been quite pioneering. Let me put it this way – if people like Bentley and Rolls-Royce can do an SUV, why can’t Land Rover or Range Rover do a luxury car?” 

About the MLA architecture, it is known that it supports 100 kWh batteries and has the potential to give an electric range of around 482 km. Both models will have electric motors on their axles, however, a larger battery can be expected for the flagship SUV.

Moreover, the new Range Rover Crossover’s appearance will be more luxury and road-focused than off-road performance which can be a big twist for Land Rover.
