Hyundai “crazy” sports car in the works
The Korean automaker is said to be working on a “crazy” sports car, which will be a performance-focussed car, planned to launch next year. The car is expected to be either a pure electric or a hybrid. This comes after the global boss of R&D at Hyundai, Albert Biermann said, “We are developing high-performance battery-electric and fuel cell electric prototypes in partnership with (Croatian electric specialist) Rimac as part of our effort to introduce 44 eco-friendly models worldwide by 2025,” in his speech at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show.
He further added, “Our strategy prepares Hyundai N to meet the electrification and mobility challenges that all manufacturers will face in the years to come. For Hyundai, these challenges create significant opportunities to demonstrate our leadership.”
Going back in time, Hyundai showcased a 2-door concept, the HCD-9 in 2013 which was speculated to challenge the likes of the Toyota 86 and the Nissan 370Z with more than the latter two. Who knows Hyundai might be planning to bring it to life.
Mr Biermann also said, “something special is coming,” he further commented on would this be a sports car by saying, “We continue our N story.”
Earlier in 2017 when Luc Donckerwolke, the chief designer at Hyundai, was asked if the company is planning to work on a 2-door performance car? He said, “we are definitely doing it. I can’t tell you much more about it, but we are definitely doing it”. We are simply trying to connect the dots. For unawares, Luc worked for Lamborghini before he started to work for Hyundai.
