Australian market slump leads to vehicle sales drop by 9.6 percent

The market for new vehicles in Australia continues to appear weak. The latest number released by Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries shows the total sales being dropped to 117,817 in the month of June 2019, which is 9.6 percent less in comparison to the same period last year. It presented the last six months of sales, which reduced every proceeding month in comparison to last year’s data.

Apparently, June 2019 sales data is said to be the lowest in the last seven years, despite the strong end-of-the-year incentive, which has boosted the chances of the premium brands. But the vehicles tally saw a drop of 10.5 and 9.3 percent in the business sales and private sales respectively.

Considering the last year’s tally, the six-month results now show 554,466 units sale, which is 8.4 percent lower than the previous year. Despite the reduction in sales, Toyota continued to lead the business by 21,200 units sales with Hilux remaining the country’s top-seller with 5396 units. Corolla managed to have 3137 buyers, which placed it in the fourth position overall while the latest gen RAV4 also gets into the list of the top ten securing the eighth position with 2449 units.

Securing the second position, Mazda managed to score 10,806 (-13.3 per cent) with the CX-5 (2911 units) that remained the nation’s most popular SUV. On the other hand, Mazda3 struggled with 2533 units.

Among the other brands, Hyundai showed a better rate than most by achieving the third position overall with Hyundai i30 selling 3350 units. The mid-sized SUV Tucson also secured a place in the top ten list with 2344 units.
