2020 Skoda Rapid breaks cover in Russia

Sedans might have started becoming a thing of the past in some automobile markets around the globe. However, there are still regions in the world where the segment is just as active as the others, and automakers are catering to the demand rather well. One such updated vehicle to serve the purpose is the 2020 Skoda Rapid for the Russian market that the Czech automaker has just revealed. To allure more customers than before and fare well in the competition, the Skoda Rapid specs sheet received some major changes.

Starting with the exterior, the Czech sedan now comes sporting a front fascia that is inspired by the Scala hatchback. Also, the story repeats itself at the rear end as well, as we see a Scala-inspired rear on the new Rapid. All of the LED headlights, single-piece black front grille with chrome surround, LED tail lights, big "SKODA" text on the tailgate, blacked-out ORVMs & roof, and stylish dual-tone alloys provide the 2020 Skoda Rapid with a refreshing and attractive appearance.

On the inside, we find the updated Rapid to flaunt a large eight-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, "Virtual Cockpit" digital instrument cluster, a brand-new heated steering wheel with audio & cruise controls, USB-C ports in the centre console, heated windscreen, and much more. As for the power, the updated Russian-spec Rapid comes with two engine options. First up is a 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol-fed motor making 88 hp or 108 hp of maximum power. The other engine option is a 123 hp 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol-fed mill.

While the 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated four-pot mill can be had with either a five-speed manual or six-speed torque-converter automatic, the 1.4-litre turbocharged four-pot, on the other hand, gets an exclusive seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Safety features on the 2020 Skoda Rapid are plenty with the likes of the multiple SRS airbags, front & rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and many others making their way to the sedan. Following the Russian introduction, the 2020 Skoda Rapid will begin its journey towards other markets like China and India. Don't expect the sedan to arrive down under as the currently on-sale Rapid is set to be replaced by the upcoming Scala.
