2020 Skoda Kodiaq - Full details

Skoda Kodiaq has been known for its practicality and clever touches. With an edgy design and feature-packed cabin, calling it one of the best suburban family haulers won’t be wrong by any sort.

The 2020 iteration is no exception. The seven-seater SUV has grown and only gotten better with time. Fared against the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Skoda Kodiaq comes with better standard equipment, cabin space, and clever Skoda-exclusive touches. The price has, however, increased for the 2020 model, now with a premium of $700, courtesy its new Virtual Cockpit that was earlier available as an option.

It is available in three trim options including, 132TSI, 132TSI Sportline, and RS TDI, with a new starting drive-away price of $47,940.

Exterior

The 2020 Kodiaq is the best-looking Skoda typically with its solid stance and sharp creases. While its blacked-out front grille and contoured bonnet add icing on the cake, its new adaptive headlamps and 19-inch chunky-looking alloy wheels contribute to its typical SUV appearance.

Talking about the Sportline variant, it gets sporty add-ons, including black exterior components, a new set of 20-inch alloys and a body kit. The range-topping RS variant, on the other hand, gets an RS-specific front bumper, 20-inch alloys with red brake calipers, dual exhaust, and side skirts.

For some, the Kodiaq is a large SUV, but it’s only about 100 mm longer and more than 300 mm shorter than the Toyota RAV4 and the Mazda CX-9 respectively.

The 2020 Kodiaq is now a standard 7-seater. It comes with premium Alcantara leather seats and upholstery and the Virtual Cockpit as standard now. Other standard equipment includes electrically-adjusted driver seat with memory function and front area illumination.

The 9.2-inch infotainment system gets SmartLink Smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Columbus 3D navigation system. The Tech Pack, which is available with a premium of $ 2,900 adds intelligent Off-Road mode, a 10-speaker Canton sound system, wireless charging, adaptive dampers and hands-free parking. The side steps can be fitted with an additional price of $ 1,300, while a panoramic sunroof at $ 1,900.

As a part of a luxury pack (costs $ 3,700), the Kodiaq gets features like three-zone air conditioning, virtual pedal, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats and ivory or black leather-appointed seats. There are clever touches like a rubbish bin, sunglasses storage, ticket holder and umbrella in the front door.

The RS variant gets Alcantara seats with a quilted pattern, RS steering, RS badging and a carbon effect digital instrument cluster.

As far as indoor storage is concerned, it gets bottle holders and illuminated air-conditioned glove box and a 270-litre boot with luggage hooks and net system. This space can be extended up to 630 litres by folding down the third row and to 2,005 litres by folding down second and third-row seats. Plus, you get a tablet holder behind the seat’s headrest, electric child lock and door edge protection.

Safety

On the safety front, the 2020 Kodiaq gets standard features like parking sensors (front and rear), reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. Aside from this, it boasts traffic jam assist, adaptive chassis control, surround area-view with four cameras, automatic parking assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.

Competition

The Kodiaq competes against the likes of Nissan X-Trail, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-9.  It fits well in the segment and offers tough fight to its rivals, courtesy its roomy confines, broad safety, and luxury standards, clever touches, and easy manageability on a daily basis.
