2020 Mini John Cooper Works GP to make debut at LA show

The Mini hot-hatch is all set for the official unveiling at the Los Angeles Motor Show next week. The third-generation John Cooper Works GP will be presented during the BMW Group’s press conference that will take place on Wednesday, November 20. Mini JCW GP production is limited to only 3000 units and will be manufactured at the company’s Oxford, England, assembly plant for global distribution.

Known as the hottest MINI ever, the subcompact JCW GP will be powered by 2.0-litre upgraded turbocharged 4-cylinder mill producing at least 305 PS of power. The engine will be coupled with an automatic gearbox.

If we talk about the model appearance, it will have a custom-tuned chassis and exterior styling enhancements which improve aerodynamics. Moreover, the larger alloy wheels, large roof-mounted spoiler at the rear, and a more combative body kit are also expected. A pair of centre-mounted exhaust pipes will be seen for engine breathing.

The earlier GP models did not carry rear seats and the trend has been followed this time also. Also, according to the firm, the fastest street-legal Mini lapped the Nurburgring in less than 8 minutes as compared to the previous-gen model which had a record of 8:23.00.

Besides JCW GP, the brand will also have its North American debut of the new Cooper SE electric vehicle at the show. The Cooper SE is powered by a 32.6 kWh battery pack capable to produce 181 PS of power and 270 Nm of torque. The firm claims the run of 0-100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 150 kmph. It can travel around 235-270 km with a single recharge. The first examples of limited-run Mini will arrive at the authorized dealers in mid-2020 which means a few months after the Cooper SE goes on sale.
