2020 Mini JCW GP automatic debuts at LA Show
Mini showcased the third-generation John Cooper Works GP at the Los Angeles Motor Show recently. The earlier GP models did not carry rear seats and the trend has been followed this time as well. The new model features only two seats and 225 KW powertrain coupled with an automatic gearbox.
The hot-hatch is equipped with a new set of braces, struts, and stiffening elements to improve chassis rigidity. Speaking of the powertrain, Mini JCW GP is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged mill producing 225 kW of power and 450 Nm of torque. The same engine can be found in BMW X2 M35i. However, the brand has dropped the manual transmission offered in the previous models and brings in the new eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddles behind the steering wheel. It is also loaded with a mechanical locking differential on the front axle.
The hottest Mini ever can run 0-100 kmph in 5.2 seconds and clocks a top speed of 265 kmph. According to the firm, it lapped the Nurburgring in less than 8 minutes as compared to the previous-gen model which had a record of 8:23.00.
On the exterior, the new GP gets the unique four-spoke alloy wheels, uprated brakes at the front measuring 360 mm. Not only this, the exterior styling is enhanced by a wide body kit made up of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, red and black highlights around the body, and pumped-up diffuser at the rear.
Inside the new JCW GP cabin, you will find a less sound insulation system, new steering wheel, new seats, and new gear selector trim. It also houses a 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster taken from electric Mini Cooper.
Mini JCW GP production is limited to only 3000 units and will be manufactured at the company’s Oxford, England, assembly plant for global distribution.
