2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA teased, will make its debut on December 11

Mercedes-Benz's first of its kind "purely digital world premiere" is just around the corner, and the German automaker's compact SUV GLA will also be unveiled at the very event. Moreover, as you would have already presumed from the title of the story, the compact SUV based on the MFA II platform will take the centre stage on the 11th of December 2019.

Mercedes-Benz pronounced at the launch of the all-new A-Class that there will be a total of eight models coming out with the MFA II platform as their underpinning. So far we have already seen the  A-Class hatch, sedan, and LWB sedan, the CLA coupe & Shooting Brake, B-Class, and the GLB. And, with the GLA, the line-up of eight models will be complete.

Since the upcoming GLA is going to be a compact SUV, the car will come sporting an upright profile, 20 mm shorter height, and a longer wheelbase for more space inside. Furthermore, the likes of the dual-screen MBUX infotainment will also make their way to the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA as the compact SUV will feature the same interior as the A-Class.

On the mechanical front, there's going to be a 1.3-litre petrol unit that makes 163 hp and a pair of 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mills churning out 190 hp and 224 hp, respectively. Apart from the petrol motors, Mercedes-Benz will also offer a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel-fed motor that generates 115 hp and two 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel units with 150 hp and 190 hp of maximum power, respectively.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA will be manufactured at Rastatt, Germany plant and will also lay the foundation for the automaker's upcoming EV hatchback, the EQA. Once launched, the compact SUV will take on the Audi Q2, Audi Q3, BMW X1, BMW X2, and the Volvo XC40. Australian masses should be able to get their hands on the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA by the third quarter of 2020.

Interestingly, the arrival of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA will also pave the way for the exciting AMG-tuned GLA 45 and GLA 35 models. While the GLA 35 is said to come with a 302 hp of maximum power under its hood, the GLA 45, on the other hand, will flaunt good 416 hp of maximum power alongside a four-wheel-drive system. Excited?
