2020 Jeep Wrangler grabs a three-star ANCAP rating

Thanks to the upgraded safety equipment, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler has gained a better three-star ANCAP safety rating compared to the previous poor one-star score. While the safety rating has certainly improved, ANCAP has still criticized the structural deficiencies that may lead to injuries. And, that has kept the 2020 Jeep Wrangler away from receiving a perfect five-star safety rating. The passenger compartment of the Wrangler "did not retain its structural integrity in the frontal offset test", and "poor or adequate protection to the head of a struck pedestrian over most of its surface" was offered by its hood.

For the 2020 model year, the Jeep Wrangler gets autonomous emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring as standard on its Australian-spec avatar. Both of the high-tec safety features have helped the new Wrangler in attaining the three-star ANCAP rating. “Consumers should be aware that the a-pillar and cross-fascia beam failure, footwell intrusion, high seatbelt loads and excessive pedal movement have not been addressed and remain a risk for occupants,” said Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) safety body chief executive James Goodwin.

Child occupant protection is where the off-roader excelled as it grabbed a five-star rating in the particular category on the back of a high score of 80%. Even though the 2020 Jeep Wrangler sports autonomous emergency braking (AEB), it doesn't come equipped with lacked pedestrian and cyclist detection. Goodwin also stated that it was disappointing to see the Jeep Wrangler scoring a one-star ANCAP rating and the vehicle has not improved much over time. Moreover, Goodwin was also found citing that they have had brands to inform Australian masses of making improvements and offering a vehicle safer than the European model that was tested last year.

“For a new model to have an unstable passenger cell, where the dummy has made contact with the A-pillar, with the dashboard. One of the other things we’re seeing here is that the footwell ruptured, comparing it to the previous model we were not seeing any of those sorts of structural problems occurring,” Goodwin added.
