2020 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo racing car comes out
The Italian automaker Ferrari unveiled two new race car models this weekend at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali, namely 2020 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo and 488 Challenge Evo. As per the firm, the new 488 GT3 comes with improved aerodynamics, handling, safety, and reliability but equips the same powertrain. It stands in competition with McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini, and Porsche racing cars around the globe.
The exterior styling has undergone a few changes to improve the car on the aerodynamic front. To improve the airflow along the sides of the car, the bumper gets a smaller grille, a revised front splitter, and dive planes. By adding the new components, the downforce and stability of the car have also upgraded. Ferrari says the result comes from over 18,000 hours of calculations and CFD simulations, followed by wind tunnel testing during the development.
To prepare the car for 'GTE' class races, the new Evo rides on a longer wheelbase now. It provides greater stability, less tyre wear, and better support to drivers. Moreover, it reduces the weight and helps in making better use of ballast for a lower centre of gravity.
As stated earlier, the model is powered by the same 90-degree turbocharged V8 engine producing outputs as per the FIA's Balance of Performance regulations. However, a new engine management system has been added.
The brand also offers a 24-hour Endurance package with basic equipment incorporating a front bumper with extra headlights, quick-fill couplings for oil and coolant, a carbon-fibre clutch, revised brake calipers adopted from the GTE, and steel wheel nuts.
The optional features are Le Mans spec LED lights up front, sensors for the coolant level, and refueling completion with warning lights. Inside the cabin, the seats are redesigned according to FIA safety regulations and weigh 2.4 kg less than the existing ones.
