Mitsubishi revealed Mi-Tech Concept, an open-top SUV with a gas turbine engine

Mitsubishi is known for showcasing the new concepts every time the auto show happens and this time it unveiled an SUV concept with a gas turbine engine at Tokyo Motor Show 2019. The new concept is called as Mi-Tech Concept, it features a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a beach-buggy body.

As per the firm, the turbine can be powered by diesel, kerosene, or alcohol and capable to offer a noticeable output for its weight and size. The lithium-ion battery pack drives an electric motor on each axle. The brand's S-AWC all-wheel drive system is fitted in the car to precisely metering torque to individual wheels.

The proposed turbine engine is an alternative to the internal-combustion engine and If we see the other players in this area, then the name of Jaguar appears. It is known that Jaguar fitted its now-defunct C-X75 concept with a set of 'micro-turbines'.

On the exterior, the SUV features Mitsubishi’s bold “Dynamic Shield” front fascia with copper accents and T-shaped LED light treatment at both the ends. If looking from the side profile, the huge wheel arches got a complete attraction. At the rear deck, it gets prominent turbines and the same “T” theme tail lights. One important thing to be noted here that doors and roof are absent in the car which denotes its buggy personality.

If we see inside the cabin, it got retro-futuristic appointments. Instead of the traditional infotainment system on the center console, it gets a large display projected onto the windscreen that both driver and passenger can use. The installed radar and camera sensors can warn the driver about impending hazards.

Even though the firm has unveiled the concept but it is expected to hit the market by 2022. Stay tuned to Zigwheels Australia for further insights on this.
