Honda S2000 fanboys, here’s the coupe’s 20th Anniversary Prototype
The Tokyo Auto Salon is one of the major automotive events in the annual calendar. Every year, numerous new, facelifted, modified, and conceptual vehicles make it to the mega event and attract the eyeballs of both the visitors and the fanboys over the internet. This time around, when the Tokyo Auto Salon will kick start, there is going to be a rather unique and special addition to the exhibition for the devotees. As you would have already guessed by the title of the story, it is the iconic Honda S2000 that will be setting the stage on fire at the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon.
The best part, however, is that the coupe will arrive at the show in a brand new avatar, that it, the S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype. While the changes are limited to the exterior and a few mechanical bits, Honda Access, the Japanese automaker's in-house customisation expert has made sure to make the coupe worth anticipation. Allow us to tell you an interesting fact, Honda unleashed the S2000 back in 1999 in commemoration of the automaker's 50th anniversary, and now, the coupe itself will be celebrating its 20th birthday!
Since the Honda S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype is simply an AP1 based coupe that was produced between the years 1999 and 2003, the coupe doesn't sport too many changes or updates. While not much is known as of now, the Honda S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype gets a brand-new front bar, side skirts, fenders, rear spoiler, and red leather seats. On the mechanical front, the coupe gets a modern and stiffer suspension.
Back in the days, the Honda S2000 came housing a 2.0-litre engine that churned out 247 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 218 Nm. It was then a 6-speed manual gearbox that sent the power to the wheels. And, the Honda S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype is also set to arrive with the same engine under its hood.
We know that the special edition coupe has already intimidated you enough to shell out money in order to make it yours or at least get the new parts to fit on your existing unit. While the S2000 in its anniversary avatar is quite certain to make it to the dealerships, Honda might just offer the parts since it is not calling the coupe, a concept. Anyway, let's not spark rumours and wait for the automaker to unleash the S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon.
