Chicago Auto Show 2020: Ford showcased 2020 GT Liquid Carbon Edition

Ford’s flagship sports car, GT has received some major updates for the 2020 model. It includes higher power output,  new paint finishes, and a variety of mechanical upgrades. The 2020 Ford GT is limited to a dozen cars per year.

The updated GT gets the traditional 3.5-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine but with a 13 hp gain from previous models. The 3.5-litre engine gets an updated power output at 660 hp. The mill is highly inspired by features developed for the track-only GT Mk II car, making the Liquid Carbon edition a faster and efficient vehicle.

Additionally, the revised engine calibration also offers a broader torque band, including a revised cooling system, plus gallery-cooled pistons and higher energy ignition coils.

Apart from getting an improved engine performance, the supercar will also be featuring a new Akrapovič titanium exhaust system to enhance the power output. There’s an updated suspension with stiffer dampening to help with handling the car at high speeds and add on to the cornering abilities.

In terms of aesthetics, Ford has introduced two unique finishes in its recent offering. Users get an option to pick between Liquid Carbon and a new take on the famous Gulf Racing livery. While the Liquid Carbon showcases the exposed carbon-fibre body of the GT, the Gulf Racing livery resembles the Le Mans-winning GT40 from 1969. 

GT also receives two additional stripe options and seven standard paint colours apart from the choice of bare carbon or Gulf livery. Besides, customers also get the opportunity to choose from five different interior colours, five brake calliper colours, and titanium lug nuts. Interestingly, the Carbon-fiber wheels are also on offer for the first time on a heritage model.

While explaining the car’s price tag of standard GT 2020 at $500,000 and the Liquid Carbon version at $750,000, the automaker said, “This next chapter in the Ford GT story allows us to fully demonstrate our mastery in both the art and science of carbon fibre craftsmanship and finishing”.
