BMW X6 arrives in the world’s blackest black color

BMW is ready to showcase the special edition of X6 in the world’s darkest black color named Vantablack at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. According to the company officials, the special edition X6 Vantablack will be the first in the world to get this black finish and claims that the finish highlights the expressive design language and confident, dominant and muscular appearance of the new BMW X6 to perfection.

The idea behind designing this special edition is to make the X6 appearance two dimensional and to get more focussed attention on the debut feature i.e. Iconic Glow Kidney Grille. Ben Jensen, the inventor of Vantablack stated that "The BMW X6 in Vantablack looks absolutely fantastic. We also realized that it wouldn’t have worked if we’d put on the original material, as the viewer would have lost all sense of three-dimensionality.”

VANTA officially stands for Vertically Aligned Nano Tube Array that packs billions of carbon nanotubes into every square centimeter to absorb light and convert it into heat, instead of reflecting it. This darkest man-made substance is invented by Surrey NanoSystems. It is actually a new version of the original Vantablack technology that was first developed in 2014, and it was specifically made for use in architectural and scientific applications. The object painted with Vantablack loses its defining features and appears in a two-dimensional form that can be interpreted by the brain as staring of a hole or even a void. These features make the Vantablack rather unsuitable for vehicle paint finish, as it blots out virtually all the design details and highlights.

BMW X6 is based on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform and will be available in three variants- xDrive30d, xDrive40i, and M50i xDrive. The xDrive30d is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel producing 265 PS power and 620 Nm peak torque, the xDrive 40i uses a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol motor churning out 340 PS power and peak torque of 450  Nm. And the top-spec of X6 range is M50i xDrive until the launch of X6 M, include a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 making 523 PS power and a solid 750 Nm of torque,
