BMW plans to introduce i6 in 2024
BMW plans to add a new car in their luxury fastback segment, a four-door coupe called the i6, which might be released in 2024, as per reports by Autoblog Italia. The upcoming offering by the German automaker will be based on an all-electric USP. It will bring the company in the competition with brands like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Tesla.
BMW’s current lineup in the ‘i’ segment, which represents the BMW EV series, already consists of two cars, i3 and i8. While the i3 is a fully electric vehicle, the i8 is a hybrid model, comprising of both traditional engine and a battery. With the introduction of its new i6, BMW looks forward to becoming a strong contender in the world EV market.
As per the reports by Autoblog, the upcoming vehicle is all set to feature two different batteries, a 90 kWh and a 120 kWh battery option, expected to deliver mileage between the electrical range of 560 km to an expected 700 km. Moreover, the i6 will feature all-wheel drive and a choice of two electric powertrains.
The BMW i6 electric coupe is said to feature a style, inspired from its sibling, BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe. Although the automaker has not discussed anything about the features of the car, the i6 could be powered by two electric motors, one on the front axle with 150 kW and the rear axle with 250 kW.
Currently, the German automaker has lined up its upcoming electric offerings, iX3, iNEXT and i4, set to hit the market by the year 2021. The forthcoming cars will feature BMW’s extensive research in technology and sustaInability and are aimed towards carrying an affordable price tag for the masses.
BMW already holds the trademark for i6, which is expected to arrive in 2024. With their future lineup of EVs, the automaker is showing an aggressive product strategy in the zero-emission segment.
