BMW M8 Gran Coupe unveiled, confirmed for Australia
BMW has revealed the new 2020 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe today, which has been shown earlier in concept form last year. The new coupe will be coming in the second quarter of next year along with two-door coupe and convertible versions of the M8 family.
The 2020 M8 Gran Coupe engine bay gets a twin-scroll turbocharged 4.4-litre petrol V8 producing 639 PS of power and 750 Nm of torque. The firm claims the run of 0-100kmph in just 3.2 seconds. Power is sent to BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed M Steptronic auto.
The 4WD mode sets as default in the Gran Coupe, but the driver can change it to 4WD Sport mode which sends more power to the rear or deactivate DSC to go exclusively rear-wheel drive.
On the exterior, the M8 Gran Coupe gets a new one-piece kidney grille with the slim headlights, enlarged air intakes, and M gills behind the front wheel. At the rear design, the carbon fibre elements replaced the rear apron and diffuser. BMW’s carbon fibre roof reduces the centre of gravity.
Unlike M8 Coupe, the M8 Gran Coupe comes with a 200 mm-longer wheelbase which provides more space in the rear and accommodates a second row of seats.
On the technical front, the 2020 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe specs include:
- Electronically controlled dampers
- M sports exhaust
- Electromechanical M Servotronic steering,
- Two-mode adjustable M braking system
Inside the cabin, the 2020 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe features consists of:
- M Sport front seats with integrated illuminated badging
- Two-tone leather trim
- M-specific readouts on the instrument cluster, main display, and head-up display
The 2020 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe official premiere is about to happen at the Los Angeles Motor Show scheduled in the next month.
