2021 BMW iX3 is a rear-wheel-drive EV rivalling the Tesla Model X
Electric vehicles are all the rage in today's world and in order to grab the opportunity and make merry of the rising demand in the relatively new segment, every automaker is bringing out its EVs one after the other. However, to stay in the competition and give a tough fight in the EV market, automakers need to stand against Tesla, the premier EV manufacturer. And, to do just that, BMW, the German automaker has revealed its upcoming iX3 EV that will rival the Tesla Model X and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.
Set to come out official some time next year, the BMW iX3 is powered by an electric motor propelling the rear wheels. As for the power figures, the SUV receives a good 281 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 400 Nm from its electric motor. The power source comprises a 74 kWh battery pack that offers a 440 km single charge range as per the WLTP cycle. BMW's EVs use the automaker's "eDrive" technology, and the i4 along with the iNext will also come out of the production facilities soon after the launch of the iX3.
It is now the fifth generation of its electric drive system that BMW is equipped its EVs with. Moreover, with the evolution of technology, the battery pack is now an extremely flat unit lying on the car's floor. This has resulted in no compromise to be made in the luggage space and space inside the car for the passengers. The EV will be produced at BMW Brilliance Automotive in Shenyang, China. Also, the BMW iX3 is going to be part of the first lineup by the automaker to offer all of the petrol, diesel, hybrid, and pure EV models.
“The real ecological footprint of electric vehicles is sometimes questioned, particularly in markets still having a low percentage of green electricity in the public power grid. At BMW Group every electrified model has to prove that for the entire cycle, comprising raw material procurement, supply chain, production, and usage phase as well as recycling, its CO2 balance is substantially better than the one of a conventionally powered sibling,” said BMW.
Regarding the availability of the BMW iX3 in Australia, we still await BMW to make an official statement.
