Volkswagen rumoured to be working on an ID electric sports car
Volkswagen is working on a lot of developments right now and one of them is reported to be a sporty model. This model, if reports are to be believed, would sit at the top of the ID line-up of EVs. However, much of the details aren’t revealed right now.
This rumour has been reported by Autocar and according to it, Volkswagen already has a few design studies available for shortlisting. Once the model is chosen, the development will begin in no time. Plus, it is also said that this ID sports car would be the first from the automaker to have a performance-based battery. This power source will be used in other developments subsequently.
One of the details that we know of from the report is that it would be built on the MEB platform from the German automaker, just that any other ID model in the range. However, none of the details and rumours that we know has been confirmed by the automaker. But on the other hand, Sven Smeets, who is the Director of VW Motorsport has quoted that the company is beginning the development of performance-based battery by the team from ID R. This means there could be a direct link between the ID and the rumoured sports car. But again, the performance parameters of the battery has not been finalised yet.
The development is still quite far away and the real-world model might take around five years to get on the road. It could be available in both Coupe and Roadster body forms. The base models could get rear-wheel-drive, while the bigger models would be making use of twin motors to channel all the four wheels.
