Volkswagen reveals the ID. Space Vizzion concept in Los Angeles
The German automaker has unveiled yet another electric car concept, the VW ID Space Vizzion, this time at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. In the last three years, Volkswagen had introduced six pure electric concepts prior to this, showing the brand’s inclination towards automobile electrification and determination to building its electric line-up for the future.
The new ID Space Vizzion concept is said to have a battery pack of 82 kWh which will grant it a travel range of 590 km in the real-world driving conditions. The fitted motor is capable of putting out a max power of 340 PS. It will be good to sprint to 100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds, which almost as fast as the Golf R hatch.
The cabin is bestowed with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which according to the company hovers in mid-air. All cabin controls are handled through the touchscreen panel positioned in the centre.
The spokesperson at the event mentioned that the concept provides a concrete outlook of how the production version would look like which is slated to come out by late 2021. It will be launched in different regions of the world in different iterations, including China, North America and Europe. VW is yet to confirm other global markets for the launch.
It is also expected that the next-gen VW Passat would be similar to this concept in terms of design and shape. The new Passat is expected to launch somewhere around 2025.
The first model to enter the Australian market is likely to be an electric SUV inspired by ID Crozz concept cars, showcased earlier at the Frankfurt and Shanghai shows in 2017. Expected year of launch in 2022. Additionally, the company has plans to launch two electric versions of the Kombi Microbus, a 3-row people-mover and a delivery van, in the local market.
