Volkswagen California (Transporter) set to return to Australia by Q3 of 2020
Volkswagen Australia will be getting California back in the domestic market. Though none of the details have been revealed yet, we just know that it is headed for an introduction by the third quarter of 2020.
Though we aren’t much aware of the features and specification yet, it is expected to pack a lot of stuff from the predecessor. The new Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 would be available with a big 10.25-inch digital instrument console for the driver. Moreover, the infotainment system can either be had with an 8.0-inch or 9.2-inch touchscreen display. For the connectivity, there would be Apple CarPlay.
In terms of the features on the safety department and assistance programme, there would be rear cross-traffic alert, crosswind assist, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Moreover, it is slated to get the much famed autonomous emergency brakes too. Also, the replacement of hydraulic steering for a better electro-mechanical setup would ensure that the addition of parking assist and lane-keeping assist is possible.
The all-new Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 will also get a new powertrain option under the hood, in addition to the TDI turbocharged diesel. The transmission will be handled by a 7-speed automatic while an AWD will also be standard.
The Transporter is offered in three trim levels internationally, though Australia will get the “Beach” trim. One of the most fascinating standard fitment would be the pop-out mini kitchen. Also, the Beach variant is offered in a 4 or 5-seater option, though the Australia-bound model has not been confirmed for the same.
Ryan Davies, the commercial vehicle head of Volkswagen Australia has expressed his joy at the return of the popular transporter van in the country. He claimed that it would be the perfect weekender for prospective customers.
