Tesla opens order books for the Cybertruck down under

The Tesla Cybertruck has already racked up 250,000 orders just after a week of its unveiling. Moreover, the number is expected to only go up as Tesla opens in order books in Australia. Interested Aussies can visit Tesla Australia's official website and make a $150 deposit in order to reserve a unit.

Tesla will kick off the production of the Cybertruck in 2021, and the Australian units should arrive here only after a year or two. When a folk at Tesla was questioned about it, no details were revealed regarding the number of units booked by the Aussies and the Kiwis.

Tesla has not disclosed the Australian pricing for the Cybertruck yet, and hence, the decision has to be made purely based on the specifications of the Cybertruck, whether you want to book one now or not. Taking into consideration the US prices of the Tesla Cybertruck, the all-electric pickup truck gets a starting price of $ 39,900 USD ($ 58,900 AUD) for the single motor rear-wheel-drive variant, with the dual-motor all-wheel-drive and the tri-motor all-wheel-drive models costing $ 49,900 USD ($ 73,750 AUD) and $ 69,900 USD ($ 103,300 AUD), respectively.

As for the range, carrying capacity, and towing power, the single motor rear-wheel-drive variant sports a range of 250 miles (400 km), can carry 1500 kg, and is capable of towing 3400 kg. Then comes the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model, which has a range of 300 miles (482 km), can carry 1500 kg, and will be able to tow up to 4500 kg without a fuss. At last, we have the tri-motor all-wheel-drive with 500 miles (800 km) range, carrying capacity of 1500 kg, and a towing potential of 6300 kg.

A 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kmph) run on the three variants of the Tesla Cybertruck takes 6.5 seconds, 4.5 seconds, and 2.9 seconds, respectively. Just like it happened with earlier models by Tesla, critics and automotive pundits have started questioning the Tesla Cybertruck on whether or not the production model will look like the displayed vehicle. Also, interrogations regarding the Cybertruck meeting the pedestrian protection & crash safety standards, providing adequate visibility from the cabin, and other issues have already begun. But all that doesn't make a difference when you're a Tesla fanboy, does it? Just head over to the Tesla Australia's website and deposit $150 to reserve the badass Tesla Cybertruck for you.
