Skoda to name its first complete electric vehicle as ‘Enyaq’
Skoda has been following a very obvious, but notable pattern when it comes to naming the SUV from its gallery. All of its SUVs start with “K” and end with “Q” - Kodiaq, Karoq, and Kamiq. However, it is quite obvious that the same pattern would not be followed while bringing in electric-powered cars.
And very rightly so, the Czech-based automaker maker is making changes in its nomenclature but replacing “K” with “E” for its upcoming electric vehicle. Though the Citigo iV is the first electric car from the company, the Enyaq (new EV) will be the first car to be manufactured as an EV right from the start.
Skoda has been tight-lipped regarding any details on the Enyaq yet, though the zero-emission SUV could be the production version of the concept Vision iV that was showcased a year back. However, there are quite a few things that might not make it to the production version, like the large 22-inch wheels, suicide doors and the coupe-like roofline. Yet, despite these not making it to the production model, the Enyaq would still be a car with sublime attractiveness.
The Skoda Enyaq will hit the production with the MEB platform from the Volkswagen Group. Much like the MQB platform, this MEB too would start to underpin many models from the different brands under the group.
Skoda’s Vision iV concept has dual electric motors, one each on the two axles. The total power output is rated as 302 horsepower. And since there are two motors on the axles, the power would be routed to all the wheels. It is claimed to have a good driving range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge and the battery can be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The Skoda Enyaq EV is a very important car from the company’s perspective as it is a part of the plan of having 10 electric and hybrid vehicles by 2022. Skoda Australia presently sells all the important models from the global portfolio, including Fabia, Rapid, Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq and Karoq. Kamiq and Kamiq RS are still in the pipeline to be launched here.
