Skoda Kamiq, Scala with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
The Czech automaker, Skoda has recently confirmed the up-gradation of their two upcoming compact models on the technology upfront. The automaker stated that Scala hatchback and Kamiq crossover are the first two models of the company to offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Currently, the Skoda consumers connect their mobile phones to their vehicles through a USB cable to access the brand’s SmartLink technology. This enables consumers to get the display of some selected apps on the infotainment system’s screen and can be controlled while driving. But the recent up-gradation will make the smartphone integration more convenient and easier.
A person needs to establish a connection to the infotainment system via Bluetooth for the first time, and after that, the phone will automatically connect via Wireless SmartLink as soon as he/she enters the car provided the Bluetooth is on. While the smartphone is paired to the car, the data for mirroring is transmitted over Wi-Fi. In addition to this, an optional phone box will also be offered with Kamiq and Scala. If the phone is placed in the box, it will connect with the infotainment system as well as to the vehicle’s external aerial to ensure optimal reception and will be charged using Qi-standard inductive charging at the same time.
Skoda Australia has not yet confirmed when the country will get the new smartphone-compatible feature, though the indications were in favor. During a recent press release, Kurt McGuinness, PR and brand experience manager for Skoda Australia stated, "Our approach to Skoda in Australia has always been ‘more car for your money’ and having an upgraded system such as this in our cars certainly fits that philosophy”. The facelifted Superb sedan and wagon may be the first to offer wireless Apple CarPlay in Australia at the time of launch in the upcoming months.
