Porsche braces itself before going electric in Australia
Porsche currently offers eight plug-in hybrid vehicles in Australia, and the all-electric Taycan should up for grabs soon enough as well. Going by the reports, the German automaker is all set to reveal the Australian pricing for the Taycan in early 2020. And, in order to expand and improve the charging infrastructure down under, Porsche has started installing destination electric vehicle chargers in Australia. The brand claims to be working hard to cover the five pillars of EV readiness before the Taycan, the German automaker's first-ever fully-electric car arrives down under.
"It’s not often when we add a new model line, it’s an exciting time. It’s our first all-electric sports car and Taycan is a very interesting model to bring to market. There is already a lot of positive things being said and written about the product. Everything we are doing around that is quite exciting, working with dealers and potential owners and other destinations around readiness. So there’s a lot of areas we are covering off regarding charging and it centres around five main pillars,” said Chris Jordan, the head of Porsche Australia public relations.
According to Porsche, the five pillars of EV readiness include home charging, dealer charging, charging at the metro destinations, regional charging destinations, and a third-party network provider. Porsche has already begun starting installing destination charging both in CBD and regional locations where Porsche owners visit very often. Just like Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche is also looking forward to cracking a deal with a highway network charging provider. That should also enable new customers to avail five years of free charging.
Whenever an individual purchases a plug-in hybrid Porsche, a qualified tradesperson from Porsche visits the customer's home to inspect it for its EV-readiness. The visit is performed in order to make sure that both the vehicle's overnight location and the energy supply meet the requirements for an at-home charger. In Victoria, St Andrews Beach Brewery on the Mornington Peninsula and the Wilson Parking structure within the Eureka Tower are the first two branded destination charging locations set up by Porsche. We expect many more to join the fleet sooner than later.
