Mercedes-Benz recalls GLE, CLA, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class models
Mercedez-Benz Australia has recalled the Mercedez-Benz GLE, CLA, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class models. There have been a number of safety issues with the following series of vehicles. The company has said that there is an issue with the active brake assist software which could lead to failure in one of the radar sensor control units. This might lead to the braking assist not activating during a collision which would, in turn, might lead to risks in injury and impact to all the road users who are present at the very time. A total number of 675 cars have been included in this recall drive.
The recall has been done according to the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 and Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989. According to the acts, if a vehicle is caught with safety issues or if a vehicle is might cause injury, within the terms of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, or if the vehicle does not comply to the rules and regulations of the Australian Design Rules or ADRs, then they are to be recalled. As per the guidelines developed by the ACCC, a vehicle can be recalled if it leads to injury or does not fit the essential standards.
In order to be recalled, there has to be at least one issue in the vehicle and it has to exist in a number of vehicles of the kind. Mercedez had started the sale of these cars on March 1 of this year. The products that have been sold till July 30 of the year come under the umbrella of the following issue.
Mercedez-Benz has complied to the recall and has advised the customers of these specific models to contact their most convenient authorised Mercedez-Benz dealer for a free software update. They have also released a VIN list for the cars that need a software update.
