Mercedes-Benz recalled 2019 Sprinter van, concern tail-light functioning
Mercedes-Benz has recently issued a recall notice for the 2019 Sprinter van due to concerns regarding the proper functionality of the tail-lights. The company officials explained the defect as a 'software fault' means the tail-lights may malfunction in certain vehicles if the rotary light switch is shifted to a new position in 'less than 0.5 seconds'.
The fault may lead to complete failure of tail-lights or its partial functioning at highly reduced brightness which in turn reduces the visibility of the vehicle on the road and increases the chance of an accident. The warning indication of the defect will be provided by the vehicle through an in-dash indicator while the working of brake light will not be affected. A VIN list of a total of 875 vehicles is provided by the automaker which may get affected by the aforementioned defect. The owners of the affected cars can contact the nearest dealer and organize a free fix of the issue.
The new 2019 Sprinter is a full-size van available in three configurations- cargo, passenger and crew. The cargo van is provided with two seats and a large cargo bay, whereas the crew van features a three-place bench for five-passenger seating, and the passenger van can carry up to 15 passengers. All the configurations come in 144-inch and 170-inch wheelbase lengths, and the longer-wheelbase versions are also available in extra-long cargo and crew configurations.
The vehicle is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission which delivers 188 PS of power and 349 Nm of peak torque. In 3500 and 4500 models, the standard engine is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission and produces 188 PS of power and 440 Nm of torque.
