Lexus confirms the launch of first-ever electric vehicle

The luxury carmaker Lexus is all set to launch its new EV at the Guangzhou motor show in China on November 22. As the Chinese market is known as the most popular electric market in the world, the brand may have chosen it for this reason.

About the appearance of the new EV, the market believes that the brand’s first electric car will be based on an ongoing model. Though Lexus did not say anything in this aspect but as per the teaser images, we can say it is somewhere similar to compact SUV UX which competes in a popular segment and targets the urban buyers.

If we look at Toyota’s portfolio of electric cars, the firm offers an all-electric C-HR SUV on which Chinese spec UX is based. And, as per the firm’s official, the same car may come to Europe. 

Further, Lexus aims at launching a new 'dedicated' electric vehicle based on Toyota's e-TNGA platform in 2022 backed with the expectations of strong electric cars demand in the European and American markets. Besides this, the firm will also launch its first-ever plug-in hybrid model at the same time. And if we go by the firm’s statement then all the cars of the brand will be electric by 2025. Lexus says, "sales of electrified vehicle models to outpace those of conventional internal combustion engine vehicle models".

Come to the local market, it is much behind the other developed electric markets of the world but in the case of hybrid models, the firm enjoys the good sales numbers. The brand offers hybrid drivetrains with the compact UX SUV, ES sedan, NX SUV, and RX SUV. The hybrid segment holds around 30% portion of the total sales volume this year.
