Hyundai Nexo becomes the first certified hydrogen car of Australia
It seems that Australians are one more step closer to get their hands on eco-friendly vehicles. Yes, we are mentioning about Hyundai hydrogen vehicle Nexo here, which is officially ready to roll-out in the Australian market now.
Talking specifically about the hydrogen car concept, it is a zero-emission vehicle that runs on compressed hydrogen fed into the fuel cell stack and produces electricity to power the vehicle. Moreover, it emits only water vapor from the tailpipe instead of carbon.
Recently, Hyundai’s green car received formal certification from the Australian government and became the first hydrogen car in the country. Not only this, no one can doubt the safety aspect of the eco-friendly model as it has already earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
About the availability for the local customers, it is known that the model will be initially available for the government on lease and also for the fleets who have access to hydrogen filling stations in the country. After completing the installation of a hydrogen refueling station, the 20 Hyundai Nexo will be delivered to the Australian Capital Territory. The government is planning to set-up more fuel stations in the country, so the green technology becomes accessible for the local people.
In a recent interview, Scott Nargar, Hyundai’s senior manager for future mobility and government relations said, “We really need infrastructure on the forecourts of service stations, we need infrastructure in shopping centres, we need infrastructure in the home.” He further added, “Our fuel cell vehicle is certified and we’re ready to start selling it, leasing it, we’re just waiting for the infrastructure to catch up.”
To get a competitive edge in the market, the brand offers all the four eco-friendly options - petrol-electric hybrid, plug-in hybrid, pure electric, and hydrogen power.
