2021 Volkswagen Taigun showcased
Volkswagen has revealed its compact SUV at a media event just before the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. The Taigun, a name that is also in the concept stage, has been built on a brand new modular platform with the name MQB A0 IN.
Interestingly, the compact SUV is identical to Volkswagen's Chinese-spec T-Cross. Volkswagen had previously showcased the Taigun as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. The 2014 concept car was a sub-4 meter SUV while the present Taigun stands at 3.86 m on the outside and 1.73 m in its width. Interestingly, it sits on a long 2.47 m wheelbase to improve cabin space.
Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, Taigun reflects Volkswagen's family design and shares the lines of the Tiguan and Touareg. The car is said to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine, producing a maximum power output of about 113 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. Volkswagen claims that the SUV is capable of pulling the speeds of 100 km per hour from an ideal start at a sprint time of 9.2 seconds.
The near production-ready model carries a broad front on the exterior and sports extensive use of chrome on the grille. The large front air dam and silver skid plates add to the muscular appeal of the car while the LED taillamps connected by an LED bar give the Taigun a wider stance.
Moving on the inside, the driver assistance system of Taigun gets a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster for the Virtual Cockpit, and Volkswagen might also offer features like a panoramic sunroof, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment, supporting both Android and Apple Play.
Lastly, the Taigun will be one of the four new SUVs that Volkswagen plans to bring in the next few years. Launch for the car is expected to happen in early 2021.
